Hrm....does Slint come with a console screenreader?
Admittedly I've not tried it yet but I feel like putting it on a
virtual machine

Yes it comes with espeakup + speakup + espeak on the console (also
brltty) and speech-dispatcher + orca + espeak-ng + brlapi in graphical
environments.

The text installer is usable with braille and speech.

Caveat: to run it in VirtualBox you will need to first
install the VirtualBox extensions in console mode.

Best,
Didier.
