Are you doing this with the *live* DVD? I remember that a couple of
Debian releases ago, I used the live CD or DVD and got into the
installation program. At that point, Speakup kicked in and my volume
went way down. I ended up using the netinst CD afterwards, if memory
serves.

I use speakup to install debian all the time. I'm not using any virtual

starts spinning and hit s then hit enter and expect speakup to start
talking on my speaker system. It takes a few seconds but the first
question you get is to choose your language and if you use english hit
enter for the default. Default for country is united states and default
time zone is eastern when you get to it.

Greetings!
Maybe I misunderstand something here, but I have used a couple of
recent stretch live DVDs for short times. The default when bringing
up Orca seems to be my speakers only, which took me some trouble to
find out because I was using headphones exclusively; I had to go into
the sound settings to set it for both speakers and headphones. I also
got Speakup working. What I could not figure out was installing from it.

Does it have a live image with orca, gnome, mate, or other desktop?
Debian has lives images but they're not well maintained and not
accessible. So it's like Windows, you've to install it to use it.
Best regards,
Alex.
