Re: [orca-list] OT: Two questions (Mate Q and picking a forum software)

Hello,

As for the forum software I like discourse https://www.discourse.org/ .
Look at it on its home page or its community. Each post is definatelly a heading and I have recognized other little accessibility features here and there. From admin perspective it's a little bit more demanding because it's coded in ruby not PHP. Except of clasic fully moderated or open forums according to your wishes it can also function as a mailing list meaning it might become very attractive to blind people. Also it has modules for importing various other forum databases e.g. phpBB, SMF and similar. As I said it may require some learning curve but it's definatelly something worth checking as it's still in rapid development as compared to the others, it's modern, it has some accessibility related features and it's simply awesome.

Greetings

Peter

Just wanted to add onto my previous replies....

Tried SMF. It won't, by default let me jump between posts by headings which is something I for one would like. That being said, the roup wants simple, lightweight and easy....and for the blind users in it I've been getting talk of hey, Jace, youknow of any that will let each post be its own heading?

Off the top of my head, I know of a few but I'm still looking for that one forum software that ticks all the boxes, ya know?

Also, related note, I'm impressed showing Mate to a Windows user and them being right at home after I said hey, you hit the windows key, you got a start menu, you can right click, you can do everything and it's just different ways o doing stuff. Think I lucked out with that one

I can't speak for everyone who will be using your forum, but SMF seems to be less cluttered as I look at it. It does have some pretty good locking features and such as well, though I haven't really done much admin stuff on it. PHPBB really isn't bad either, so it's definitely worth a look, especially if it looks better to you from the point of view of an admin as well as a user.
