Re: [orca-list] OT: Two questions (Mate Q and picking a forum software)

Yep I meant Ubuntu 18.04 which IIRC uses Mate 1.20 out of the box, now I'm not sure when/if it got updated or forked or whatever, I've not run into any Mate updates to a newer version here...and yes Gnome as a DE is acessible but I find it's a spectacular resource hog, Mate uses around 500 mb RAM and Gnome uses about 1-1.2 gig which is...frankly absurd. I'd rather stick with Mate thanks since it's lighter weight an means hey....more stuff done. Then again I stil got my ultra minimalist setup on my desktop at home. Did they ever fix the 3.28 memory leak?

For the forum stuff I didn't even consider SMF, Used to be on a SMF forum aaaaaaaaaages ago that I found clunky and unintuitive really. Basially, if they make it easy to use, I'm interested. I like simplicity. Can't speak or the others in my writing group but I for one love simplicity really. I'd rather take something that's super fast to pick up and learn than anything else.

Also for Skype, I'm both amused and highly entertained by the Skype fiasco over in MS land. Meantime, web skype does what I need it to...which or me is mostly messaging and such.

Okay one more question as I write this....

Out of the forums suggested, phpbb, punbb/fluxxbb, SMF, and any others you guys can suggest....which is the simplest to use? Ideally I want a simple open the page quick reply box and you type yer reply in and hit enter without opening up a new page. I want something that's fast to load and we can lock it so guests can't get in and see our writing things.

I didn't realize that the 18.04 version in your post referred to Maté.

Of course Maté 18.04 is accessible (I ship it in Slint) and 20.O4 even a little more I have been told (I
don't ship it yet because that'd need to upgrade GTK, which I will do only in the next Slint release).

1. I got told in a shouty capitals message on Skype that Mate isn't accessible any more as it got moved to
Gnome 3. Any truth to that and given I'm on 18.04 I'll be safe till 20.04 right?
If you mean Ubuntu 18.04, I guess yes. (I write I guess because I don't have one running at the moment but
I'm pretty sure of the answer).

As an aside I have Fedora 28 running in a VM and talking. So of course Gnome 3 is accessible.

In this case shouty capitals are just spreading FUD.
