Re: [orca-list] laptop recommendations

Beauty of Linux is, it will run on hardware that isn't completely modern. This, of course, depends on how you configure your install and what you intend to do with your machine, and on your budget, and on how future-proof you want to be, and whether you intend to run another OS on the same machine... But you should be good to go with just about anything.

I just recently upgraded my 2011 Asus laptop for an HP Envy. I was shooting for a Dell XPS 13, but the deal I got on the HP Envy was just too good.

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 on it, and I haven't noticed any issues. It was a bit tricky to get it partitioned correctly and have Ubuntu boot by default, but these were mostly Windows, UEFI and my own ignorance.

Orca is actively maintained, and it's great to be on a list like this where the main developer of Orca is so active.

As the subject says, is there particularly well-supported hardware that will run Linux. It's been awhile since I've looked at this. What is the current state of things? I'd stopped using it a bit ago, because it looked like Speakup and Orca weren't being well maintained but I'd like to run this again. I'm not really happy with the current setup. I don't mind a lot of configuration or playing around with things either. I'll probably run arch or similar. What are people using full time with reasonable success? I figure now is a good time to ask since I'm looking for new hardware. Thanks for any information you might have.
