Hi Jason,
Thanx for your help and sorry for my late answer. Since I checked my
mails on my phone, didn't notice that some mails landed in the
"advertising" folder ;-)
I posted my question on the brltty list as well and was able to fix the problem:
In the brltty.conf appeared "bm:protocols" instead of "bm:protocol"
which caused an error.

Those log files should show you what happens when BRLTTY starts. Have you
tried running BRLTTY manually, for example with sysctl start brltty?
Just saying "it doesn't work" gives us no information about whether BRLTTY
is
started or not, whether it finds the braille display, etc.
What happens on the braille display and in the log files when you start
BRLTTY
from the console?
