The logout command is not in the Launcher, so I guess you're right it is 
impossible to find it there. It is however in the Device Indicator, 
which you can get to by hitting alt+f10 and then left arrow once. You 
can then down arrow through the different options, which includes logout.

Note that I assume you're talking about the Unity desktop.
