It's in line with what joanie commented on my bug report:

For example, if one does not know the meaning of, say, NIH, he or she
would have to look up it. (Hint: It's the "not-invented-here" syndrome).
So exposing a control would be the best way to go.
Maybe making the announcements optional, like for punctuation or similar.
I wasn't aware of the pronunciation dictionary yet. So much to explore!
