Re: [orca-list] [Bug 726166] Orca does not read title-attributes of abbr-tags

Hello,
When reading a webpage and orca is about to present a link it reads its text and then anounces the control role. That's the information this is a link. This is brailled also. I think expected behaviour is to anounce these abbreviations the same way. And info about getting the title is trickier because these are not focusable so can't be queried using where am I feature of orca. If there is indeed a way on how to present this the abbr title property should be mapped into a control description.

Hopefully I haven't forgotten about possible breaking edge cases.

Greetings

Peter

Hello,

I've opened my first bug today on Bugzilla of GNOME. It is #726166
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726166)

Joanmarie Diggs was so kind to reply quickly :-)

The question, how do you blind users would like to deal with
abbreviations in web documents. According to the spec, the
title-attribute of abbr-tags should be prefered, but as Joanie pointed
out, this could become chatty for common acronyms like NASA.

On the other hand, I had the idea to improve the speech flow by
expanding abbreviations like "e.g." to "for example" (which is, what
would be spoken out) or "i.e." to "that is".

Joanie arised some technically issues (like cursor routing) which should
be kept in discussion as well.

So what is your browsing experience so far?
