Re: [orca-list] Accessibility of java-Based programs

Java swing applications work better in Linux than they do in Windows.  I use both operating systems and can attest to this first hand.  I don’t know about AWT –based apps though.  In case you are wondering what all these acronyms are, they are widget libraries that are in Java.  SWT, Swing and AWT are all libraries that Java programmers use to construct their gui applications.  In windows, when you have an inaccessible Java-based app, Swing is the usual culprit.  AWT is pretty inaccessible too.  Maybe if you told us just what Java-based app you are trying to use, we might be able to tell you whether or not it is accessible.

Hope this helps,

Alex M

Unfortunately it isn't SWT-based, that would make it also more accessible in Windows. So do you have any experiences with swing-based Apps? Thank you for the very quick response!

That depends.
If you have an swt based app like eclipse then it is totally accessible.
Happy hacking.

Hello guys,

do you have any experiences using java-based programs with Orca? I'm asking this, because I am currently  using Windows with JAWS. And as you may or may not know using JAWS with Java programs is a mess. However for my studies I am not able to avoid using a natural language processing tool and thought I'd ask here before installing Linux and trying it out with ORCA.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

Atilla
