perhaps something is amiss with that installation then. The debian AT-SPI 2
packages are up to date in Sid.

If you're updating orca in Debian, I have found that the best solution is to
download the sources of the Debian package, update the Orca sources and build
a new Debian package.

Perhaps, though seems like a fair bit of trouble for something that
should be relatively straight forward. 

You might think so, until you run into conflicts, or an update goes wrong and
you have to remove what was installed into /usr/local. Without the benefit of
a package manager, you'll have to hunt down the files manually and delete
them. Then you'll start thinking that perhaps updating the Debian package and
letting the package manager take care of your files would have been better
after all.

I've been there, done that.
