Hi,

Why would you reboot your system instead of switching to a virtual console,

That's because Orca is my ownly screen reader. I have never recompiled
my kernel with Speakup support etc so when Orca dies I loose speech
completely. I have tried killing Orca and restarting etc to no
success. I usually have to flip over to a virtual console and issue a
shutdown command and reboot the system to get Orca back.
You'll certainly need AT-SPI 2 installed and running for this to work; one
reason why QT accessibility has taken so long is that it needs a working
AT-SPI 2 with DBus as the inter-process communication mechanism.
Yes, I know all that. In my original post I mentioned compiling atspi2
from scratch as well as a number of dependencies that needed updated
and/or installed to get this working. Despite doing so Orca is not
working with QT based apps. I'm wondering if I need a complete Gnome 3
install or a massive update of packages because something is obviously
wrong here.
Cheers!
