yours is better, I started using the Ubuntu Quickly framework which 
creates a standard application window with menus and status bar and so 
on, but introduces lots of bloat and other dependencies that just get in 
the way and unnecessarily tie it to Ubuntu with things like desktopcouch
I put my code at https://code.launchpad.net/orcatutor and you can get 
this with:
sudo apt-get install quickly
bzr branch lp:orcatutor
cd orcatutor
quickly run

however I would prefer to abandon my prototype and if you could put your 
one with just a glade file and simple python launcher in a version 
control system somewhere I would be happy to work on that.
