Re: [orca-list] updating broke something

Hello,
Firstly let's try and get X starting and those nvidia driver problems seen to.

For nvidia drivers I use the nouveau drivers. Part of my reasoning for this is that my desktop's nvidia card now is only supported in one of the nvidia legacy packages and they have had issues at times, so nouveau offered a working solution. Also if you prefer an opensource solution then nouveau is that. You may want to see the archlinux wiki page on nouveau http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau.

Should you wish to stick with the nvidia binary drivers then the archlinux wiki page http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA may help.

Please note that while I am using the nouveau drivers the desktop is actually running debian so I don't know precisely the situation for the version in archlinux packages.

Also as pointed out, if you have GDM started then this may stop X starting using startx. I would have thought though in that situation you wouldn't get errors about nvidia drivers if your graphics were configured correctly.

I can't say for sure, but it's hard to believe my problem is not somehow
related to this one. I upgraded a week ago today, using "pacman -Syyu", as
I typically do. In my case, though, my use of "startx" didn't even get me
close to bringing up Orca. Even the X stuff didn't load, it seems. I ended
up reinstalling Arch this week, including Gnome and Orca and other GUI items
I use. Once again, "startx" hasn't even gotten me close to trying to bring
up Orca. My log file had problematic messages concerning my nVidia drives,
but several tries at addressing those failed utterly. I'd be mighty
grateful for any new ideas.

I've been maintaining an Arch system here all along and even with the
latest updates of speakup and espeak and all, I haven't had any
problems with Orca. I've been using git versions of Orca however, and
I don't know if perhaps there is something wrong with the production
version of Orca - doubt it though. The PKGBUILD script for Orca is
pretty strate forward. I've never seen the slew of errors you spoke
of. How are launching your X session? Are using gdm to login or do
you do a 'startx' from a normal user from the text console?

Hello,
The list of errors would be useful. I believe the issue people have
been reporting about GDM accessible login may also affect standard
users (although the situation may be less common due to other
software running for normal users than GDM).

However, I doubt the accessible login warnings would have given
errors about none-existent modules.

Hello,
On my archlinux laptop, I ran "pacman -Syu" today. After
rebooting, something appears to be broken in orca/at-spi. I can
login to the gnome desktop, but orca doesn't come up talking like
ormal. Pressing Alt + F2 and typing orca in the run dialo does
not produce any errors, but it still doesn't launch orca.

I chcked an orca -v using speakup in one of the text consoles and
recieved a host of errors about misdefined classes and
none-existent modules. I need to o some diggingto find houw to
get to my USB-thumbdrive under the consoles and I can get you an
exact copy of the error messages.

I update with pacman weekly. I'm just running the stable base
repositories and *not* the testing repos. Does anyone know where
I should look to determine the nature of y problem? so hopefully
I can report it to the appropriate people.

Thankyou
