Hi all!

I'm Javier Hernández and i'm working in Orca for the Guadalinfo Accesible
Project (http://live.gnome.org/Guadalinfo_accesible).

At the moment, my work consists on change Orca's own config to something
more in line with the gnome desktop way, like gconf or gsettings.

Our first intention was move Orca's config to gsettings, but gsettings isn't
released yet and also there's not a python implementation to working with,
so finally we decided to move it to gconf.

Once we get Orca's working with gconf, it will be more easy move to
gsettings.

My first step was obtain config's keys from actual user-settings.py, getting
possible and/or default values for each key and its types.

The next step is to generate a gconf schema for Orca and start to work with
it, but i need to know if I have to add/remove some other configuration
elements, so if anyone is interested in contribute with this i will be
grateful.

Actually, there is an open bug to track this purpose (
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619398).

The flamewar at the thread fork is quite entertaining but it could be
really useful for the project (aside the specific config solution) if
someone give to Javi some feedback about the list of keys.

Actually, Orca's settings is being a issue from long ago, basically
because is mix of scriptings, key-value pairs imported as Python lib.
If we want to improve de config system the first thing we need to do
is detect all the configs, the deprecated stuff, the ones missed, and
group them.
At this point, any feedback about the lis of configs detected would be
great to keep progress.

After everything be organized we can give a thought to the better
backend for those settings for all the users. So, please, let's get
focus on the first step.

Thanks in advance ;-)

Cheers
