It is better to run Speech Dispatcher under a less privileged user for
security reasons.  You start it as root, but the startup script
automatically switches the uid for the SD process to the
"speech-dispatcher" user.  Thus the process doesn't have unnecessary
privileges and can not damage something unexpectedly.  You must,
however, manually set up permissions on files and directories, where SD
needs write privilegs.  Normally this is done automatically by the
package configuration script, but when you install from source, you must
deal with that...
