[orca-list] Alsa and Gnome Speech

Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 and now that I have speech dispatcher and alsa-oss 
installed, Gnome speech has stopped working.  If I try to enter any orca 
setup mode, orca stops giving feedback from the screen, but it still reports 
key strokes.  When I hit insert space, nothing happens on the screen either 
and I lose screen feedback.  Orca -t or -s or -setup does the same thing.
Could alsa be grabbing the speech port so that gnome speech can't get access 
to it?  How can I switch gnome-speech to alsa?
