Hi all,I recently subscribed to this list, but didn't introduce myself yet. I'm studying informatics at Han university (the Netherlands) at the moment and I started a webhosting/development company with some friends. I started usign PCs in the Dos time with a braille display and a hardware speech synthesizer. Now I'm using Windows as my primary OS, but I'm working with Linux on a daily basis because all our hosting servers are Linux-based. I played with Gnome from the quite early days where you had to get gnopernicus and figure out how to get everything working. I have a dualboot Win/Linux on my laptop and sometimes I'm just booting into Ubuntu to see if I could do the things I want to do with Linux. Gnome and Orca are not yet there for my daily needs, but they are getting closer and closer. What I really like is to see the progress that people are making by working together on common problems. Fixing bugs in Firefox because the Orca team discovers and post them is much better than a screenreader that works around accessibility glitches in programs without having the possibility to fix the program itself. Some people may know me from the gnome-accessibility-list where I posted some messages from time to time.

Hi Bryen:As of 3 seconds ago (I just checked), there are 281 members. The thing I really enjoy about this list is the positive and constructive atmosphere everyone brings. Thanks everyone! Will Bryen wrote:Welcome to all :-) On a side note, I'm very curious to know if anyone has come up with any figures for number of blind Linux users? It'd be interesting to see what the numbers are. How many members are on the orca-list? I'm a computer user since I became fully blind 4 years ago. I'm hoping me and Linux will become friends with Orca's help:)). I'm very new to Linux so for now I'll just reading your posts and ask from time to time. My name is Danny. I am back on the Orca list after some time of being away. So I thought I should introduce myself again. I have been a computer user for many years. My first exposure was to terminals connected to a main frame. I worked with someone who told me what wwas on the screen. Then it was md-dos. I used a screen-reader with a bulky synthesizer, at a college lab. Then I started using windows. Finally I am using a Macintosh, version 10.4.11, and it is not the best for reading web pages. However I really like the fact I can install the operating system on my own. After I get a used pc, I will give linux a try. _______________________________________________ Orca-list mailing list Orca-list gnome org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/orca-list Visit http://live.gnome.org/Orca for more information on Orca_______________________________________________ Orca-list mailing list Orca-list gnome org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/orca-list Visit http://live.gnome.org/Orca for more information on Orca_______________________________________________ Orca-list mailing list Orca-list gnome org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/orca-list Visit http://live.gnome.org/Orca for more information on Orca
