Re: Orca great news for orca developers!

Hi Krishnakant:

A "blocked" bug in Orca does not mean that we, the Orca team, are
blocking bugs or are purposely preventing progress. We would never do
that. Instead, it means that there are external components that have
bugs that are blocking progress of Orca development. For example, let's
look at this bug:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349978: [blocked] Orca does
not announce a message change when deleting a message in evolution

This means that there is a bug in Evolution that is causing bad
behavior. We tried working around it, but we could not. So, we filed a
bug against Evolution (see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351516, which is referred to
in bug 349978).

regarding the blocked bugs, is there a way that they can be fixt or do
we have to wait for a complete remake of the next version of orca?

If we can cleanly work around the problem using an Orca script, we will
do so and you will reap the benefits in the next version of Orca. If we
cannot work around it, we often help the other people fix the problem in
their code, and we then need to wait until they create a new release of
their product.

So...very motivated people that want to help with Orca can also help by
helping fix the bugs in other components that are blocking Orca
development.

I hope even openoffice people are working towards this issue of orca
accessibility?

Yes! They are fixing bugs and are working hard and have no shortage or
work to do. I also see that their bug database allows people to vote on
bugs. If this feature is used, it may mean that bugs with more votes
will get more attention than bugs with fewer votes, perhaps helping the
OpenOffice folks decide what to work on next.

I want to have orca development take a very fast pace and I am
developing a team of blind and sited people for orca specially.

This is great!

Thanks!

Will
