Re: Gnopernicus (screen reader) and Orca?

Hi:

Orca, Gnopernicus, and LSR are all screen readers with their own approach. Gnopernicus is the oldest of the bunch, followed by Orca, and IBM announced LSR very recently. As the overall lead of Orca, I do not think it is professional of me to provide a comparison of the screen readers and I will refrain from doing so.

The Orca model is one where we've involved people with disabilities from the beginning, with the first prototype being written by a blind engineer. The UI design of the current version of Orca is being led by Mike Pedersen, who is a blind engineer and who also led the script writing department at a leading screen reading company for the Windows platform.

While Orca was received very well at CSUN last week, we do realize we have a long way to go. I'm looking forward to productive and constructive discussions on this list where people can share their experiences and provide feedback on how to improve Orca.

Hope this helps,

Will

I have another question on that... :-)
Is there any relationship between ORCA and LSR from IBM ?

It's also python scripting, over at-spi...

Hello,
I've spent last days trying to know the "work in progress" around
"accessibility" on free software.
On the screen reader's area I've found this project, as well as
gnopernicus (screen reader), both of them on GNOME ...
So, I'm little bit confused about what is the main goal of each one...

What I've read (and seend :-) is that ORCA is a more like a plugable
platform and gnopernicus is more like a direct solution for gnome
applications, but the two projects are working over the at-spi layer.

Is there any relationship between this projects?
or I'm missing something....?¿?

Thanks a lot :-)
