Hmmm. Well, *something* is switching my Atheros into iwpiv mode 1
shortly after NetworkManager starts. I verified this by setting up a
while loop running 'iwpriv ath0 get_mode' every second and then 'ifdown
ath0' to shut down the NIC and 'service NetworkManager start' to start
NM. A couple seconds after NM starts, the iwpriv mode changes to 1,
locking the NIC into 802.11a mode.
Maybe there is a bug in the madwifi driver. I'll post this problem on
their list and see.
