Re: [Nemiver-list] Re: Nemiver 0.3 Roadmap

One thing that could be useful though (but I can only imagine the amount
of work required for it) would be to split the lower pane so that users
could show more "stuff" down there. I think having both the frame/stack
and the variables tab next to each other would be a nice addition.

Yes. I think a more generic solution that would let the user really
choose where to put
the different widgets of what I call the "status notebook" today would
be welcome.

When I started to write nemiver, I thought about using something like
GDL (gtk docking library) developed by our anjuta friends. But I
quickly decided to build solid foundations first. I really hate when
the software I am working on crashes because of non reliable
foundations. That is why I haven't thrown much energy into this kind
of stuff yet.

To have the solid foundations, I think a good approach is to come up
with a first (acceptable) version of each feature, have users use it
so that we can make sure the engine (the foundations) can properly
handle the required workflows.

Once the foundations are there, we can refine the user interface and
head toward a better user experience (and an even better engine along
the way).

Once we have the solid foundations, I would be glad to look at gdl
more closely, maybe wrap it to make it a good *-mm citizen or even
write one that fits our needs better, should gdl not be suitable to
our task. I would really like to have something where you could just
drag a widget and drop it where you want.

Anyway, thanks for the 0.2.0 release, it's already a pleasure to use
Nemiver.

Thank you to bring nemiver to the users of the gentoo distribution.
We'll hopefully get even more feedback and come out with a better tool
for GNOME friendly developers.
