Re: Problems with Redhat 8 in console window

It turns out that Redhat uses 4.5.5 not 4.6 for Redhat 8. Also, the Redhat rpm
of 4.5.5 in a putty telnet session doesn't give you lines around the mc
windows, not even when you use what putty calls poor man's line drawing
(plain ASCII dashed lines). So, I am using both-- 4.6 for putty and Gnome
and 4.55. for the console.

Hello!

I've had exactly the same problem. I've discovered that if I will
uninstall whatever version of MC that I'm trying and reinstall the
version that ships with Red Hat 8, then the problem goes away. But
if I reinstall any version newer than the one that ships with Red
Hat 8, then the problem the Myron describes returns.

That's because mc shipped by Red Hat has a patch to support their
UTF-8 hack.
