Sorry Calum, I didn't mean to put you on the spot!

You've mentioned several times that you have a fair bit of work done
on your working copy of the HIG but that it's all in rough form --
could you maybe commit that to SVN so others can help?
I'd gladly do editing & clean-up work on the text -- and at the end of
this current cycle I'll have a few months when nothing much happens in
the documentation project.

The HIG is an important foundation element of Gnome, and many things I
think are important to advance depend on it -- like Gnome
certification, for example -- so I'd really like to see an updated
version.
