In the very first meeting held in the STSI that was set after your proposal ther was an intial discussion about possible location for this event. In general, it was said that the universities of Barcelona would have not facilities to fulfill the GUADEC's requirements, specially a main hall with a large capacity to be used regularly. I wasn't in this meeting, so I'm repeating words like a parrot. This idea remained in the STSI background, and this was one of the reasons why the IGC/Fira combination looked as a good plan. In the past weeks, when the STSI had to find alternatves and quick, they thought a good location would be Vilanova if they thought the could fulfill the requirements (and Vilanova says they can, joining neighbour locations), and a good organisation would be CampusMed, because they could offer organisational flexibility and institutional agility (which they have shown these days racting pretty well to the GUADEC7 proposal, I tell you).
