Ok, looks like something like this should work then:

  if (sizeof (void *) == 4)
    OSAtomicCompareAndSwap32 (...)
  else
    OSAtomicCompareAndSwap64 (...)

I'll give it a try.  Is 10.4 the earliest you want to support?
