I have not done the all-encompassing overhaul, but I have made a
number of changes that I thought made sense:
- rename gschema-compile to glib-compile-schemas
- rename related pc and autoconf variables to follow suit
- uppercase the automake variable, its GLIB_COMPILE_SCHEMAS now
- rename the autoconf macro to GLIB_GSETTINGS
- check for pkg-config and use PKG_CONFIG
