Excel impo9rt with Gnumeric 1.0.1 broken?

Hi all,

I've compiled Gnumeric 1.0.1 on a RH 7.2 system with:

guile 1.5.4
Guppi 0.40.2
libole2-0.2.4

No problems were encountered in the configure or build stage, but now I
cannot import XLS files.  I get an error box: Unsupported file format.

These are the same files that I could read with older (0.74 I believe)
versions of Gnumeric.

Any clues?
