I brought this up in October, but there was no response. Hopefully bringing it up again will get some discussion going.

As this is about the default theme for GNOME Shell, I'm not sure if this is the right place to mention it. I just built the latest  GNOME Shell and see the new grey default theme.  I think the minimize button should be changed in look and maybe even in tooltip. The look goes back to the older GNOME UI where the window would be reduced to a bar on the bottom of the screen. In GNOME Shell this isn't the case.  Applications are hidden, or at the very least reduced to an icon in the Overview. Perhaps the icon should be a dot aligned to the (upper?) left and the tooltip be "hide". Keeping the same look of the button but with a completely different action is confusing to first time users.

I've also heard rumors that the minimize button is planned to be removed entirely, is this true? If not, would something like my suggestion be taken?

Probably not the best mailing list for this.  You probably want a mailing list related to ui or themes.
