In general, it's really hard to sustain a conversation about whether the
overview is like getting out of your car to change the car radio station
or not. Sure, you can make that analogy, and it's valid in some ways.
But there's also a lot of ways its *not* like getting out of your car:

 - You can do it in a few seconds
 - It doesn't involve getting out of your seat
 - There's no car involved

In fact, it's generally really hard sustain a discussion about whether
the basic ideas of the shell are great or they suck, because like any
major change, they are going to be great in some cases and in some ways,
and are going to suck in some cases and some ways.

More interesting things to discuss:

 - In what cases does GNOME Shell work less well?

 - How could the GNOME Shell ideas be adapted and extended to
   work better in those cases?

 - What alternate ideas would address the issues that the GNOME shell
design document starts from? how would you evolve the GNOME shell
   in those directions?
