This work will not be obsolete never (perhaps if some countries/languages change their name or code :-P), It's just that I cannot add a dependency on iso-codes package that have all those strings, thus I need to add those strings inside gnome-control-center but in the future we will depend on iso-codes or something like that. You should look at it this way: What's better? 400 new strings to translate (or lose the 100% translation statistics) or get a capplet to configure my locale preferences now instead of wait for it six months? Another option I have is just release the capplet but without translations. It's not an ideal solution but it's better than lose it for GNOME 2.6. The translators should decide it.
