Hi Pranali,

Things are looking good to me at least (BUT I am not a mentor for this
project). I went through most of your links mentioned below and left a
couple of comments here and there.
The broad timeline seems OK to me and looking at your experience now, I
think it's realistic. On the other hand, I want to keep an open mind about
the timeline as lot of stuff
depends on you, your mentor(s) and priorities. Things might change in due
course and that's OK. Some deviation might happen from the proposal but it
should be fine
as long as you and your mentor(s) are on the same page.

While drafting the timeline for the proposal I made a conscious effort to
keep it as realistic as possible, however, I do understand that this might
be subject to change as the project progresses based upon the mentor's
feedback and shifting priorities. I plan to keep working with the project
mentors for this during the course of the project.

Hi Petr, Umang, Ole,

Thank you for getting back to me. I wasn't quite sure if we could upload
a draft proposal on the GSoD web portal, so I copied over all the questions
to a Google Doc file [1
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aaOR2Gun8OA-oV9YRQZoXpbbUVw_fv699vFlQEk2_kU/edit?usp=sharing>]
and have started preparing it there. It's still a work in progress,
however, I plan to finish it by the end of the day today. I have also
created another Google Doc to prepare a draft for the project roadmap [2
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Uns399q_7uHhUyeeAdZ86SHUcio1aEicccKJCOix-88/edit?usp=sharing>]
for which I'm planning to add a link in my proposal.

For my contributions to the Documentation project, I have also created a
spreadsheet [3
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_MLpRID_50EVz70LoojnUtRn_8SHqn7FvoBmU15u48g/edit?usp=sharing>]
on Google Drive with the links to the issues I have worked upon along with
the links for my commits and Merge Requests. So far my last 3 contributions
were to the User Docs issues for Evince, wherein I interacted with Andre
Klapper <https://gitlab.gnome.org/aklapper> and Germán Poo-Caamaño
<https://gitlab.gnome.org/gpoo> while working on these issues.

Since the last few days, I was solely focussing on my preparing my
application proposal. However, I have identified a couple of issues that I
want to work upon during the next few days to familiarize myself with the
scope of work on the Gedit and GNOME Notes apps. However, I'm presently a
bit unsure about the status of work on the Gedit issue [#167
<https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gedit/-/issues/167>] so I have
commented on it asking if I can work on it. For Gnome Notes, I have been
going through issue #75
<https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-notes/-/issues/75> and am working
on a patch for it. I also plan to add some screenshots to it since
Bijiben's Help documentation looks a bit sparse and some screenshot would
go a long way in helping end-users.

Apart from these, I have also started blogging [4
<https://pranalideshmukh.wordpress.com>] about my journey [5
<https://pranalideshmukh.wordpress.com/2020/07/08/google-season-of-docs-2020/>]
on this project and am planning to continue posting blogs regarding my work
on the project.

This is great. Looking forward to your blog and progress reports. Also
did you figure out how to get your blog in on planet.gnome.org ? :)

Ahh! I'm glad that you brought this up. I have been looking at the Planet
GNOME Guidelines wiki page <https://wiki.gnome.org/PlanetGnome> to figure
out how to add my blog to planet.gnome.org. Once I'm done with my
proposal submission, I'll be filing the issues for setting this up on
GitLab and hopefully have my blog added to Planet! :)

I have a query regarding the GSoD program in general which I am a bit
confused about after doing probably a bit too much research about it. The
documentation work, from what I understand is an ongoing long term
contribution area, however, for the purposes of the GSoD project I've
planned out my schedule for the Standard 3 month length, with further
contributions after the completion of the project. Is it ok to apply for
the Standard length (3 months) for the program or does it have to be a
long-term (5 months) project? Also, does the program duration have any
impact on the stipend amount?

I think it depends if you opt for "long running" projects. So your
proposal timeline length should vary accordingly. Have you registered on
GSoD website yet? Maybe take a look on workflow on how to submit a proposal
and there you might find a checkbox if you want to opt for standard or
long-running projects. Not sure if it's true but I am just assuming things
based on my looking up GSoD's website.

I was unsure if I would be able to modify my proposal once I submit it so
I haven't submitted it yet. There is an option on the application form to
indicate whether the project is of "Standard Length (3 Months)" or a
"Long-Running (5 Months)" type. I've been planning my proposal around the
Standard Length time period, as it looks like quite a reasonable time-frame
for the project. I can always continue contributing to the project after
the completion of the program as well! :)

I don't know how stipends might work. It would be better if you can
contact Google OSPO in some way for clarification.

Yes. I have sent an email to the season-of-docs-support list asking for
clarification on this.

I have also gone ahead and shared my application proposal, project
timeline plan and my contributions list documents with you. Can you please
review them and share your feedback on how I can improve them further?

Also, can you please let me know if there are any other steps that I
should work upon before submitting my proposal tomorrow?

Hi Petr, your specific comments would be valuable here as I see you being
one of the mentors. :)

@Petr Kovar <pmkovar gnome org> @shaunm gnome org <shaunm gnome org> It
would be very helpful if you can also share your valuable feedback about my
draft proposal and project roadmap so that it if there is anything that you
want me to update or any specific points which you think I should focus on
and elaborate more about, that would be great! Looking forward to hearing
from you!

Discussed on IRC. Thanks again for submitting your program docs.
