Hi,
Can you please help me contact any of the mentors for the project. I have already made a few contributions to the project (Update app help) however, so far, apart from the discussions on my merge requests I haven't been able to contact anyone from GNOME including the the GSoD mentors via any of the communication mediums (email, IRC).
As such I am worried about applying for this project for GSoD, since there seems to be no medium for gathering any direct or indirect suggestions and feedback about the work that I can do for this project.
Can you please help me contact any of the project mentors with whom I could talk to about the project itself.
Kind Regards,
Pranali Deshmukh
Hi Umang,
Thank you so much for your quick reply!
I have already gone through the reference materials listed on the GNOME Season of Docs 2020 website for the "Update app help" project. I understand that I would have to work on updating the help documentation for the apps listed on the
ApplicationHelp page for apps whose status are currently marked as [REFRESH] or [NEEDSWORK]. Also I understand that I would need to use Mallard and Yelp-tools for this purpose once I have cloned the repository and set-up my profile on GitLab. Are there any steps that I am missing here before I can start contributing to the project?
Also, unfortunately I haven't been able to track them on IRC whenever I logged into it. As such it would be great if anyone here can provide me with any alternate contact options for me to get in touch with the project mentor.
Kind Regards,
Pranali Deshmukh
Hi Pranali,
Thanks for the introduction and your interest in GSoD 2020.
Since you already seem to have the understanding of how things work, from your oureachy attempt,
I think the best way is to start making a plan and break-down the tasks required in order to achieve
the project idea you are targeting for. This will provide a decent base for making a proposal and getting
it review-ed by the concerned mentors beforehand. For the context required for the task, I just had a
skim of your project idea target on [1] and it seems a lot of reference material is linked there itself with
potential mentors who might have vouched for the idea.
I understand that there might be a conundrum in choosing/monitoring various communication channels
(e.g. mailing list,
discourse.gnome.org, IRC,
chat.gnome.org .... ) but it's something you need to do initially
to see which mentors prefers what mode of communication. After lurking for a while, you will get the hang
of it and will figure out the "primary" mode of communication.
So have you gone through the reference materials linked on [1]? Do you have any specific questions and/or
inputs about it? Maybe then this list would be more useful to you.

Hi,
I am Pranali Deshmukh. I am currently working with Airbus Operations ltd. as a Data analytics Intern. My internship ends in August 2020.
I am writing to build an application for GSoD2020 with GNOME. After going through the project ideas for GNOME, I'm most interested in the following two projects: Content audit and gap analysis for GNOME - help update App Help. Having gone through the project ideas listed at the project ideas page, and the requirements for a technical writer, I feel that I am fit for the position as I already have experience in technical writing from my Outreachy project attempt for "Haiku". Also, I have worked extensively on technical documentation projects in the course of my internship at Airbus. As such I would like to talk to a mentor.
In the past, I tried to reach out to some of the folks for a conversation, but I guess the best way to do it is to talk in more open - and here I am.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Kind Regards,
Pranali Deshmukh
