Don't. Just don't. At best, they do nothing, and at worst they screw up the
machine (had to fix too many machines that "registry cleaners" and
"optimizers" left in unusable state).

start regedit and search for "GIMP"
and "GTK" just to make sure all the bits and pieces are gone.

The only GIMP-related things in Registry are file associations and an
AppPaths entry, neither of which would have an effect here.

Any 3rd-party GTK+ install should also not interfere with GIMP itself,
since the main GIMP executable resides in the same directory as GTK+ itself
(though such an install could interfere with the plug-ins, but it doesn't
look like that's the problem here).
