Re: [Geary] Sending mail from Alias identities

Please reply to all so everyone can know.

You can install the latest version from jessie-backports (or use APT pinning):

Ah, I see now the latest version of Geary allows me to do what I described in my previous email. I use Debian 8, and hence am using an older version of Geary and did not realize this when emailing.

thank you for your help Federico.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried what you indicate but it creates a whole new "email account" in the left pane. What I have are "Alias Identities". they are tied and dependent on just one email account (i.e., my main account). I cannot login to my email account with one of the alias identities. And all email is sent through the main account, but the receiver only ever sees the alias email account (unless if they examine the email headers).

Geary loads up my left pane with the Alias Identities, but they are not actual email accounts, just identities. Thunderbird only had one Email Account listed in the left pane and the Manage Identities section allowed me to have several identities associated with that account. Is this possible?

I need local folders because my email provider has a quota on how much space I have. I store emails in local folders to help manage my quota.

I'm taking a serious look at Geary. I like the UI design a lot. But
it appears to lack something I MUST have: the ability to send emails
 from an Alias identity.

Geary supports this.
Just add an alias in the preferences and you'll see it in the dropdown
menu of From field. The nice thing is that when someone replies to an
email sent from your alias and you reply back, the From field will then
be automatically set to the alias address.

Thunderbird has a "Manage Identities" settings page. Here I can set
an alias as the out going email. Does Geary have such an ability? How
 do I set this up?

In the account settings.
I see that it's not documented in the help manual. Perhaps it should be
added?

Also, Is there any way to create a "local" folder to which I can drag
emails to? Thunderbird allows local folder creation.

What do you need it for? For a backup maybe? (you don't need a local
folder to browse emails offline, I think, at least for the emails
synced).

I don't think that it's possible, see:
