So the hard delete in Gmail is possible only by right-clicking the conversation?

Probably not even there. Most Gmail folders don't support deleting, currently. See the existing bug about this: <https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=721790>. So, unfortunately you're seeing the expected behavior. I'll bump the priority of that bug up, because it's something we should offer soon.
