Oops, forgot to answer that question.

Control array: Just committed a fix to handle some Controls that can't be
replicated.  I'm pretty positive it now works with all currently working
Controls, but I've only tested it with a few.

New version detection: Ready for testing!  It should work as soon as we have
a newer version to put into the update.xml.  I've provisioned for two types
of releases, "major" and "minor", but I don't really see "major" updates
happening soon.  I guess the catch is that if we put development versions in
update.xml, "normal" users will see that as an update.  I also haven't put
too much thought into these two types of updates or when we'd use them.
