Why should this even be an option? bzips are smaller, and a larger
proportion of GARNOME users use GARNOME to do all the downloading - indeed,
that's half of what it does.
Ok, forget this kind of option. And as Rodd states it, it might be better to check for both.


The other proposed stuff (removing a 100 or so same-looking DIST_FILES in Makefiles and replacing them all with one line in category.mk) seems more than reasonable to me. It should relieve the maintance work (not exactly, since we don't expect GNOME to change the format of tarball naming). Actually, all the tarballs that follow the common naming format (most of them) should not need to specify it over and over again (this should help for new GNOME packages which get included in GARNOME later), and category.mk seems as just the right place for it. It will also save a few bytes, so GARNOME download will go down for a kilobyte or so ;)

This seems like unnecessary complexity for a very small proportion of
GARNOME users.
Very well, I'd have to agree on that, regarding the option.
