What makes you think that? The only thing the would go against this
would be if somebody would sell licenses for using games. But selling
open source software or paying people to help in making things better
are absolutely in line with open source. Maybe in many occasion nobody
is willing to pay for development - but in fact many companies are
already paying a lot for making OSS better. Though mostly they will not
put money in small games.
