That's not entirely true, Dave. Go back to the original announcement of the
marketing lists to see what the plan was. Unfortunately, no one had the time
or commitment to execute on *either* list. It is not fair or true to say
that "marketing was done by a closed little cabal on a private mail alias" -
you can see the reality of this yourself by checking the marketing-private
archives. They look eerily similar to the marketing-list archives.

That said, I strongly agree with your other comments.
