        Hi,
the evolution depends on the same version of the evolution-data-server, 
which is a dependency for other (not only) GNOME core programs and
services, including GNOME Shell, thus unfortunately yes, an update of
the evolution brings in the evolution-data-server and a significant
part of the GNOME as dependencies. I'd suggest to try (as you
mentioned) Fedora 25 (or another distribution with evolution 3.22.0 or
newer) in a virtual machine, where you'd be able to test whether it's
really fixed before upgrading your system.
