A very good point.  However I made these changes only after finding that the
Breeza theme is the only one that give a satisfactory GUI on my system. Under
KDE the number of themes is limited as is user control of them.  I'm about to
try Milan Crha's suggestion to set the environment variable
    GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0

I'll keep you posted.
