Interestingly, a large number of apparently smart people have just the
opposite impression. It's possible that they are all actually idiots.
But it's also possible that your experience or tastes lead you to
different conclusions.

Perhaps it would be more helpful for the dialog if you say, "I am having
a hard time understanding why you find bottom-posting preferable," and
then follow it up with some questions. If it turns out they are all
actually idiots, you can always say so later.
