OK, it seems indeed to be a locking problem.

Here's some stuff from the log:

It seems to first try IMAP only

It starts scanning all the folders (the folder list it prints is correct.

It then shows in the status bar: Scanning folders in "IMAP Server 
emdnotes.emd.be" 

And it remains there forever. 

I'm installing now gdb and evolution sources. I'll send a trace as soon as I 
have one.
