ok, the problem is some of the *Conf.sh files are in $PREFIX/etc and 
others are in $PREFIX/lib. 

Now it complains about g_thread_init not being found on a link in
libibex. 

HELP!!!

(If someone wants a shell account on this box I can arrange it, it's
my work desktop).
