I guess you will need to use CVS for this.

$ cvs -d :pserver:anonymous anoncvs gnome org:/cvs/gnome login

then 

$ cvs -d thesametimeasabove co gal

then 

$ cd gal && ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
