Title: RE: [HC Evolution] Re: libole2 -> gnomevfs backend?

Sorry for so rudely de-lurking!

If you are worried about accidental deletion/coruption of a single file, why on earth would you put your entire local store into one such single file?  The argument is self-contradictory.

A single-file is terrible when it becomes corrupted!

Real, everyday-users use systems like Notes and Exchange as indexed file repositories, and maintain sensitive and/or critical materials here.  (Draw your own conclusions about what this indicates in regard to the state-of-the-art in file system access!)

I have seen _many_ documents lost forever, becase a .pst file was corrupted, and the Mailbox "Repair" tool returns less than .1 of the original contents.  Detailed anecdotes are available on request. ;-)

It's not just a question of backups: a single file prevents accidental
deletion/corruption of one of the files making the whole thing be out of
sync...

P.S.: And I DO copy that file onto a CD every couple of weeks...

But how often does a user do that? Is it right to have, say, a 10% speed
penalty to ease an operation that happens once or twice a year?
I'm not sure. A tool could be made to package up all the relevant stuff
into a tgz or something if necessary.
