On my SuSE 10.3 system, a successful connection shows
   Out: PCMU - H261
   In:  PCMA - H261
On my 11.1 system, the connection shows only the PCMA -H261 line, and
there is no sound or any indication of audio transmission rates.

It is probably not related, but I also get the warning messages:
(ekiga:4202): Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with
non-zero page size is deprecated
