(Simple user thoughts on this)

As far as I see biggest objection to including Empathy in official
GNOME release is that there is already Pidgin, which already does
almost everything except washing my clothes. However, Pidgin isn't
part of GNOME and doesn't aim to be, so it is kinda dumb to argue that
Empathy lacks something which Pidgin has.

Is this criticism comes out of fear that Pidgin will be less used? Let
me doubt that. Pidgin will be front IM for most of distros (what in
fact actually matters) until Empathy will be stable/rich enough to
replace it (if it ever happens).

Also interesting is that most of criticism misses the point of Empathy
being as framework for communication stuff within GNOME. As I can't
imagine my desktop without being at least partially online, so this is
important.
