If the consensus is that empathy is better I don't see the problem if
it would replace other applications. Evince for example replaced gpdf
a couple of releases ago.

Once again, the tired refrain: maybe someday but it doesn't appear that it can even come close with only 6 months remaining. Maybe it will be ready for 2.24.
